Description

Certified to standard BS EN 13162 Knauf Loft Insulation 200mm Roll offers fantastic levels of thermal performance for pitched roof spaces. It is easy to install and helps you to lower energy bills and improve the energy efficiency of your home. As a result, this can also have a positive effect on the overall value of your home.

What is loft insulation?
Loft insulation creates a barrier of material within the structure of the roof to slow down the transfer of heat between outside elements and your home. This helps to keep your entire house warmer during the winter months and cooler during the summer, boosting all-round energy efficiency.

How does loft insulation work?
Lofts will either be insulated using a glass mineral wool quilt or foil-backed felt. In many respects insulation works a like a blanket to retain warm air circulating around your home. Loft insulation is usually installed in-between the ceiling joists to prevent the heat from rising into the loft area.

What is the best insulation for lofts?
Knauf products are generally considered as the best and the Knauf Earthwool Loft Roll (200mm) offers high levels of thermal resistance and low rates of thermal conductivity (0.044W/mK). Fire retardant properties also place it in the highest Euroclass A1 reaction class.

How to insulate a loft
Installing Knauf insulation quilt products can be easily completed following these steps:

Clear the loft space so it is ready for the installation to come.
If you have pipes and a water tank in the space these must be lagged to retain their heat so they do no freeze. This is because the loft becomes cooler once the insulation is installed.
Any electrical wiring will need to be above the insulation, ensuring the wires are not stretched. You may need a professional electrician to help with this.
Ensure the insulation material has a depth of at least 270mm.
Unroll the insulation and carefully place it between the ceiling joists. Use scissors to cut to size and avoid tearing or stretching.
The second layer should be at a right angle to the layer below. If the first layer is 200mm, the second should be 100mm.
If you are planning to install insulation in the ceiling, ensure that two layers used, with one at the right angle to the other.

How much loft insulation do I need?
The easiest way to calculate how much insulation you need is to measure the length and width of the loft in metres. Once you have both figures multiply them together which will tell you the square meter (m2) of the space. This will tell you how much loft insulation material to buy.
